HSB Class 99.23-24 2-10-2 tank No.99 7236-5 bursts out of Thumkuhlenkopf tunnel heading a service for the Brocken on 2nd November 2008. The tree clearance then just undertaken threw more light into the mouth of the tunnel than previously available.

The first Brockenbahn service of the day on Wednesday 29th October 2008, hauled by 99 7243-1, slogs up the grade on the approach to Thumkuhlenkopf tunnel.

HSB Class 99.23-24 2-10-2 tank 99 7238-1 about to burst out of the short Thumkuhlenkopf tunnel on the climb up to Drei Annen Hohne from Wernigerode on 10th October 2008. Remarkably, this is the only tunnel on any narrow gauge railway system throughout the whole of Germany.
