Trans Soviet 558 departs for Moscow Domodedovo.

The story of this aircraft is shared with several others at Transaero: this was originally a United aircraft (N208UA), before United gave it up during its bankruptcy reorganization. It went on to fly for Varig as PP-VRF, until Varig's failure in 2007, and initially destined for Royal Brunei Airlines, it was not taken up and instead entered service with Russia's Transaero.

For this aircraft, Los Angeles should be familiar ground from its United days, though with Transaero's Los Angeles service slated to be discontinued shortly, not much longer.

How to spend a long weekend AND avoid the unusually muggy weather in Los Angeles: go nuts with planespotting!

Thanks to Russia's totalitarianism and human rights abuses, anything Russian tends to make my blood boil now, but I still have to post this photo.

Los Angeles ought to be familiar territory for this aircraft, since it had first entered service in 1999 with United under registration N207UA. During United's bankruptcy reorganization, the aircraft left the United fleet, joining Varig in 2004 as PP-VRE until that airline failed. Temporarily re-assuming its old United registration in 2007, it eventually was destined for Royal Brunei Airlines in 2008 as V8-RBU, but was never taken up, and it ended up instead with Transaero, which likes to fly second-hand Boeings. The registration is Irish, which is quite typical for Russian Boeings; Russian Airbuses get Caribbean registrations, and Russia's own RA- registrations usually go only to Russian-built aircraft.

The left side of the aircraft shows the title in Cyrillic alphabet, while the right side displays it in Roman alphabet. The aircraft is returning to Moscow Domodedovo as Trans Soviet 558.
