Western Fence Lizard 4 040825

There was an emergence of western subterranean termites from very small holes in the ground. After they emerged they had to sit still for a few seconds to let their wings dry. That is when lizards and sparrows gorged on them.

Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis) preying on a North American Jerusalem Cricket (Genus Ammopelmatus) on the Bayside Trail at Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma in San Diego.

I had my head down looking for blooms and bees. A nice couple on the trail pointed this out to me.

Proudly Part Smurf!

The Western Fence Lizard has the blue coloration on their bellies to attract mates in season; the males have a darker blue, while females have a lighter blue. They are among the cutest reptiles ever! I love the sass on this one!
