As I've grown older and can no longer do without my reading glasses, I decided to shift the focus onto my cute birds rather than my own face. I believed that expressing how my inner self is as free as a little bird would result in a self-portrait that is not only kind to myself but also to those who view it. 😊 And that's how it turned out. The backlit effect and the double-shifted style are currently my personal favourites.

I actually enjoy the process of aging. While my body may be experiencing some wear and tear, I find that my emotions and lifestyle have become more stable, and I derive great pleasure from the act of painting.

To all the young ones out there, remember that as you grow older, life becomes easier in many ways. Stay strong and overcome whatever comes your way.


久々にセルフポートレート描きました。

年取って、老眼鏡も手放せなくなり、私の顔なんかより可愛い鳥にスポットを当てて、私の内面がどれだけ小鳥のように自由であるかを表現した方が、自分にも見る人にも優しいセルフポートレートではないかと思い、こうなりました。

逆光と２重にズレたスタイルは最近のマイブームでございます。年取るのは気に入ってます。身体はあちこちガタがきてますが、若い時より気持ちも生活も安定して、絵を描く喜びがあります。

若い皆さん、年取ると色々楽になりますよ。今を乗り切ってください。

ヒマワリといえば、その種が私にとって身近です。ペットショップから大量に取り寄せ、飼っているオカメインコのつがいに与えている時期が今です。

ヒマワリの種は、美味しいけれど脂質が高くて肥満になるので、普段はあまり与えませんが、交尾、産卵、子育ての時期は別です。

今年4月に初めてうちのオカメインコが産卵しました。３個の卵のうち一羽だけかえって、大きくなり無事に里親へ引き取られていきました。8月に入って、また交尾を始めたので、さっそく巣引きをして、ひまわりの種をはじめ「パワーフード」と言われる、いろんな種類の餌を毎日与えています。よく食べます。「今度は何個卵を産んでくれるのかなぁ、何羽孵るのかなあ」と楽しみにしています。その思いを絵に描きました。

しかし、この絵の「季語」はあくまでもヒマワリなので、鳥たちに主役を奪われてはいけないと、存在感の強さを調整する工夫が必要でした。いつも思うのですが、私にとって絵を描くことは、俳句を推敲する感じに似ているなぁということです。描き終えたあとも、「あっちをああすればもっと引き立つかな」などと推敲がとまりません。楽しいです。
