Macau - Grand Lisboa Casino

Macau's most surreal landmark is the Grand Lisboa Casino. Looks cool in sunny daylight from certain angles and especially at night - but unfortunately on your average hazy day and seen from far away it's not as nice a view, not to say a grand monstrosity. But then, the people who built built the Fortaleza do Monte back in the early 17th century apparently thought way ahead and already provided a solution to improve the skyline.

Macau - Grand Lisboa Casino

Macau's newest landmark. Just surreal. The tower is a flower-like architecture, the globe of the bottom is the flower's bulb? Everything in ever-changing colors. The dome is capable of displaying text and coarse pictures that only resolve to something substantial when viewed from a distance.

Hong Kong - Nina Tower

Nina Tower in Tsuen Wan. Shot from the west side (Tai Ho Road), and this is Nina Tower I with 319 m / 80 floors. The smaller Tower II is just barely visible on the left behind Tower I.

The wind causes the tree in the lower right shake - and the shot was a little difficult, as only a Gorillapod tied to a lamp post was used as support for a 6 second exposure.

Archive shot. Slightly re-edited and re-posted on Nov. 12 2024.

Shanghai - Cloudy Pudong Skyline

The top of Pudong's tallest almost vanishes in the clouds. Not the time one wants to be on the observation deck... 😀

Photo taken from the "Rainbow Bridge" (彩虹桥) - a place where you get a pretty clear view, no tourists (Chinese or foreigners) and worth a photo or two in itself.

Shanghai - Late Night in Lujiazui

23:35 - half an hour before midnight. A view towards east on the elevated walkway beside Century Avenue. All the decorative lighting and the advertising signs were turned off long ago... - and the tourists populating that elevated walkway at other times are long back in their hotels...

Taken about 2 hours after this Pudong skyline shot - took so long to change location while getting more photos on the way...

(and as usual, the crappy flickr location database wrongly states Hongkou...)
