Street photography : The street's life in the old Tbilissi

Il y a trois ans, je m'étais déjà rendu dans le Caucase, en Georgie et principalement en Arménie. Notre regard ne porte habituellement pas vers cette région et ces pays n'évoquent pas grand chose. Pourtant, ils sont au cœur d'une diversité, carrefour entre l'Asie Centrale, l'Europe, la Perse, et le Proche Orient. Ce qui m'avait le plus surpris lors de mon premier voyage était la similarité des paysages avec ceux de nos régions, le tout avec une perte de repères culturels. Lors de ce voyage en famille avec ma compagne, ma fille de 7 ans et mon fils de 2 ans, nous avons loué un véhicule et nous sommes partis avec deux idées. La première était celle de rencontrer les derniers Doukhobors qui vivent à la frontière avec l'Arménie. Je les ai connus grâce aux superbes clichés pris par une photographe Georgienne Natela Grigashvili (www.natelagrigalashvili.ge).

La deuxième, c'était de sortir des sentiers battus, et de parcourir la route entre les régions de la Samtskhe-Javakheti et de l'Adjara, pour aller à la rencontre de ses habitants. Avec l'idée de prendre la première route ou piste qui nous mène dans un village à l'écart et de le découvrir en étant ouvert à la rencontre. J'avais aussi pris une petite imprimante portable branchée dans la voiture pour pouvoir laisser les photos à tous ceux que nous avons croisé, ouvrant ainsi la porte à de nouveaux instants partagés.

C'est à travers Flickr que je vais vous raconter ce petit road trip de 15 jours.

3 years ago, I went to the Caucasus, in Georgia and Armenia especially. We don't usually look towards this area of the world and these countries are not so familiar to us. Though, they are right at the heart of a diverse location, a carrefour between Central Asia, Europe, Persia and the Near East. What stroke me most on my first visit was the similarity of the landscapes with our own regions, but losing our cultural references. During this family trip with my partner, our daughter 7 years old and our son 2 years old, we rented out a car and left with two ideas in mind. First one was to encounter Doukhobors people living at the Armenian border. I heard of them thanks to wonderful pictures taken by a Georgian photographer Natela Grigashvili (www.natelagrigalashvili.ge).

The second one was to get out off the beaten tracks, and to cross the roads between Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara regions to meet local people. Our idea was to pick any first road or path leading us to a remote village and to discover it being open to a meeting experience. I also had a little photo printer plugged in the car to leave pictures to those we met on the way, giving another opportunity to experience other shared moments.
