A beautiful lilac-breasted roller perched gracefully above the sharp thorns of an acacia tree seems to have a bit of symbolism. Taken recently in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania.

Zebra foal meets ostrich by tmeallen

A zebra foal at a waterhole in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania, is unsure how to react when a small herd of ostrich, consisting of 4 male ostrich and 1 female, come down to the waterhole to drink. Zebra foals are born with brown and white stripes.

Elephant by downed tree by tmeallen

In the Tanzanian parks where elephant populations roam, when you see a leaning or downed tree you can be pretty sure it has been pushed over by an elephant to get access to nutrients in the leaves, bark and roots of the tree. This elephant is eating grass next to a pushed over acacia tree. Although this particular elephant didn't push over the tree, I did see another elephant actually in the act of pushing over a tree....a very impressive feat of strength.

A Masai giraffe, a common species in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania, stands in the tall grass and dines on an acacia tree. The Masai giraffe is a subspecies of giraffe found in Tarangire NP. It is darker in colour than other species of giraffe and its patches are larger and more leaf-shaped with jagged edges.
