Winchfield, Hants UK | 2025

A behind schedule Wiltshire departure has made today's 6002 Westbury-Woking Down Yd aggregates some 45min late reaching Basingstoke and seen here shortly thereafter passing Winchfield Cutting at 08.47 with Cl59/1 59104.
A good level of fresh Rhododendron blooms are now present and with odd patches still in bud the optimum displays are near.

Its a long time since I venture up onto the A52 road bridge at Toton, a favourite spot in the 1970s and 1980s!

In addition to the Tesco train there are three other trains on the running lines in this view - 66613 on the 6E68, March to Tunstead, 66314 going away on the 6M23 Doncaster to Mountsorrel and finally in the distance 66104 on the 6M82 Walsall to Dowlow. Thanks to the gentleman from London also perched on the bridge I decided to chase the Dowlow working to Great Rocks where I was due for a cup of coffee and I arrived at the bridge at Peak Forest 60 seconds before it arrived!! In sun no less!!!

Bagworth Junction

GBRf 66727 is seen easing it's train over the pointwork of Bagworth Junction. It has just departed from the Cliff Hill Stud Farm quarry loading facility, with the 6G16 1148 Stud Farm GBRF - Bescot Engineers Sidings.

The train will run over part of the Leicester and Swannington Railway, opened in 1833 and one of the first railways in England, to join the Midland Main Line at Knighton Junction, Leicester. The Midland Railway bought out the L&SR in 1847 and it eventually formed part of the MR's route from Leicester to Burton-Upon-Trent.

I should add that this must have been one of the most dangerous locations I've ever stood to take a photo; lorries were thundering along this narrow B-road and bridge every few seconds, just inches behind me!

Not too much freight running on Bank Holiday Monday, but clearly the supply of the Peak District’s finest has to keep rolling. This meant 66732 ‘GBRf The First Decade 1999-2009 John Smith – MD’ made the trip from the White Peak to Birmingham, running as the power for 6G92 0828 Hindlow Gbrf to Small Heath Lafarge Gbrf, seen passing Lostock Gralam on the Mid-Cheshire Line on Monday 5th May 2025.

A bad day on the B&H. A points failure between Reading West and Southcote Junction meant that there were no westbound services for much of the day. The first westbound freight didn't pass Bedwyn until 19:36
