On a 77 degree morning on the western slope on Donner Pass, a duo of Amtrak P42DCs power the eastbound California Zephyr to Chicago as it starts its 2% climb uphill at Newcastle, CA. For the passengers on board, this is only the start of a scenic run over Donner Pass before entering the Nevada deserts and points eastward.

With a pair of Phase 7 P42's up front, the westbound Sunset Limited departs Houston and passes the SP searchlights still guarding Chaney Jct. Another 200 miles or so on the Sunset Route to the next stop of San Antonio.

Amtrak's eastbound Southwest Chief races through Egypt Township on BNSF's Marceline Subdivision at 85mph on a sunny May morning with "Pepsi Can" AMTK 160 on the point. AMTK 160, built April 2001, once wore an expirimental early version of the Phase V livery, but now currently wears the eye-catching "Pepsi Can" variation of the Phase III livery that the fleet of B32-8WH locomotives once wore in honor of Amtrak's 50th Anniversary in 2021. Two Metrolink double level coaches are placed behind the two Amtrak P42DCs on their way to be refirbished as well as track inspection car AMTK 10004 "American View" tagging along on the rear of the train. Quite a site to see Metrolink rolling stock this far east on the former Santa Fe Transcon.

The Phase IV heritage unit leads the eastbound Empire Builder out of Merriam Park. It's really incredible to see an Amtrak locomotive that actually matches their cars.
#1340, the eastbound Borealis, slides on Hastings, Minnesota with a B32-8WH leader getting a rollby from CPKC 261's conductor on the left.
Amtrak 654, an eastbound Keystone rushes through Levittown with ACS-64 643 leading the way.
