(McDonnell Douglas MD-95) - N489HA (c/n 55002/5003) - Po`ouli (Poouli)
N489HA "Po`ouli" was built as N717XC (717-2BD), the third 717-200 production prototype, and flown by Boeing Company in bare polished aluminum during flight testing, as the aircraft type went through the process of FAA certification.
Once no longer needed for flight test and certification, the aircraft would be delivered to Impulse Airlines as VH-VQB in December 2000. The aircraft's model type would also be re-designated from 717-2BD to 717-26R at this time. Impulse would then enter into agreement to lease its services to Qantas in April 2001. As a result of this agreement, VH-VQB would then begin operating on behalf of QantasLink in May 2001. Qantas would exercise its option to purchase Impulse in November 2001. When Qantas launched its low-cost carrier Jetstar Airways, this aircraft would go over to the Jetstar fleet in May 2004. National Jet Systems would then acquire the aircraft in July 2005, and re-register it as VH-NXB, while operating it for QantasLink. Hawaiian Airlines would then purchase the jet in October 2008, re-registering it as N489HA and naming it "Po'ouli."
