With a friendly wave from the driver, Cappagh blue-liveried 60028 is seen hauling a matching rake of JNA wagons eastwards through the Vale of Pewsey as it passes New Mill with another 6Z52 07:04 Tytherington to Quainton Railhead train of stone to supply the HS2 construction project. There are a couple of westbound passenger services scheduled around the time this train is due to pass here which have caught me out in this area before but thankfully they weren't an issue on this occasion.

With the locomotive work-stained from its exploits, DC Rail Freight liveried 60046 William Wilberforce is caught heading away from Manningford Bruce as it passes West Sharcott with yet another 6Z52 07:04 Tytherington to Quainton Railhead train of Gloucestershire limestone to feed the almost insatiable demand for materials to supply the HS2 construction project. In the background can be seen the edge of a sizable bank of stubborn morning fog which extended across central Wiltshire from Melksham to Beechingstoke. Thankfully it was clear here a couple of miles further east.

Slowly easing towards its booked pathing stop in the down loop at Woodborough, DC Rail operated 60029 Ben Nevis is seen with a 6Z60 10:34 Willesden 'F' Sidings to Merehead train of empty Cappagh liveried JNA aggregate box wagons. After loading at the Somerset quarry, the train will return eastwards later that day to supply the Express Concrete operation at Wembley. My intended plan was to get ahead of the train as it sat in the loop for another shot west of Patney. Much to my dismay, with the following West of England passenger service delayed the train was immediately routed out of the loop to continue on its way before it had even come to a stand.

I saw that the Greenford Branch 'D Train' was out testing again so thought I'd cycle to South Greenford and on to West Ealing to get photos of it in the good weather. Having got shots of it at South Greenford I thought I'd wait for the DC Rail stone empties to Wembley, thinking that either a 56 or 60 would be on the front. As fortune had it, it was the Blue Cappagh 60 028, a machine I'd only snapped before in overcast conditions. My shots of it at South Greenford were Ok but on the shady side. So I cycled onto West Ealing and in doing so, found the train signal checked before the single track section waiting to get off the branch and onto the Great Western Mainline at West Ealing Junction. This gave me a chance to get onto the footbridge and get some better shots of it as it came off the branch. The Plassey Railway works are on the left.
* A 117Mby, 2m 35s stills video taken from pictures at four locations - Princess Risborough, Banbury, Derby and Hasland, Chesterfield.
As I was unfortunately otherwise committed during the school half-term holiday which started on Monday 7th May, I took the liberty of utilising 4, it was to be 5, of the views available on RailCam, to watch the progress of this colourful convoy, coming back after a few days on the Great Western Heritage lines.. The camera missed out was just after the set left Derby, at Wingfield Station, an uncluttered view but sadly, maybe due to excessive viewings, there was a band-width problem and the video froze just before the set passed through.. so I got nothing.. The 4 other locations were however much better, apart from the last one as indicated above, and these were Princess Risborough Station, Banbury Station, a newly installed set of cameras, Derby Station and the south-facing Hasland camera at Chesterfield.
The screen-shots were taken at 4k resolution, the first 6 on my Laptop and the succeeding ones all on the PC, the images then being edited to get rid all of the distracting text and advertising and, apart from the 3 on the Hasland camera, were all used as is. The 3 Hasland shots were taken into the sun and so some processing was undertaken to remove the glare and, just as important, the irksome lamp-post from the south view although this, and the north view, are still plagued now by rampant Birch sapling growth, making the 2 views here almost useless...
The pictures are by no means of 'DSLR' quality but then I couldn't have gotten to all 4 widely spread locations, so making use of RailCam's excellent lineside camera views, spread out now all over the country, see-

it was possible to construct this video of the move back to Knottingley. So, this is a Heritage convoy return', starting out at the Chinnor & Princess Risborough Railway with a mixed 'H.H. Rail Service Solutions Ltd.', 'Hanson & Hall' & 'B.R., 'British Railway liveried locomotives. In the 'drag', 'H & H' liveried 'class 50', 'Hoover', 50008, 'Thunderer' leading out of the sidings to the 1st of its local reversals onto the main line. Behind that was 'B.R' liveried classes 45, 45108, ex-89420, pre-TOPS, D120, class 31, 31108, and at the back, class 50, 50015, 'Valiant', ex-89415, pre-TOPS D145, on the 0E50, Princess Risborough A.C.E., 'Area Civil Engineers', to Knottingley T.M.D. light engines move. Shortly after entering the C.P.R.R. (Chinnor & Princess Risborough Railway) sidings, the set reversed again to take it onto the bi-directional platform 3 line heading towards London, now with the 'B.R' liveried class 50, 50015, 'Valiant' leading the short way along the line for its second reversal onto the bi-directional fast, centre, line through the station, now heading north towards Bicester and Banbury.
Whilst waiting for the convoy to do its 'reversal thing' 3 other traction types came through on the main lines. First up, and unnoticed till it 'smoked' south towards London along platform 2 was a D.C.R., 'Devon & Cornwall Railway', class 60, 60028, 'Cappagh', having just dropped off another 60, 60095, in the Aylesbury loop, 10 minutes to the north. This is the regular running 6Z22, Quainton Railhead to Wembley Receptions 1-7 with a rake of empty MBA's, in matching blue colour, aggregates return working. Hardly had that got out of the way when 2 of the regular class 165, see-

sets came through. Both 'Chiltern Railways', the first heading south along platform 3 was 165022 and 165017, on the 1T25, London Marylebone to Oxford, service. Two minutes later, now heading south another Chiltern's train this time with 165035 and 165029 on the balancing service, 1Y32, back from Oxford and heading to London Marylebone.
Shortly after that, two more minutes, the classic traction set appeared out of the C.P.R.R. sidings, now with B.R. 50015, 'Valiant' leading and followed by 45108, 31108 and at the back, 'H & H' 50008, Thunderer', heading along the track before reversing back through the station to head to Banbury.
The other locations which followed this one at 11:56, throughout the day from here, were Banbury Station at 12:33, Derby Station at 15:42 and finally, for me, Hasland at Chesterfield's South Signal gantry at 16:52. It passed along the 'Old Road' here, straight though Masbrough Station at 17:13 and this 0E50 working terminated at Knottingley T.M.D., 11 minutes late at 18:45..
The carriage, which can be seen at the station at Princess Risborough, at the beginning of the video, is unit '51375, ex-977992 and is an 'ex-Water Jetting Coach, W51375 D.M.S., an old 'Driving Motor Second', see-

04/04/25 Spondon: DCR Class 56 56301 screams past working 6L92 Chaddesden Sidings - Kings Lynn TC.
The light is very squiffy (I never have any luck for this working) but it's better than the full dull I had when the preceding unit passed. Still... I have to keep it as the loco will no doubt be repainted soon and I've been after a shot here framed by the bay window of the station building and the original footbridge for a while.
First time out on it’s own yesterday saw 56301, newly acquired by Cappagh / DCR from the Class 56 Group, delivering sand from East Anglia to Ravenhead Glassworks in St Helens, Lancashire. The return of the empty JNA hoppers was 6D85 1752 Ravenhead Sdgs to Chaddesden Sdgs, where they are kept when not in use. The Grid was caught passing southbound though Hartford on the West Coast Main Line in the evening of Tuesday 1st April 2025.
