Palms are such amazing plants, and the Arb provides them when we need them most, right in the middle of winter. Inside the warm and humid Conservatory you can forget the snow and ice outside and put yourself right in Hawaii. 20250225_DSCF5172

It was a relatively warm day and nice to be out, but the sun was deeply buried in the clouds. Not every day is blue skies, but each has it's own beauty.

It's been a fine year for fog, we've had several days of thick penetrating fog that seems to give everything a mysterious and bewitched look. What might be looking at you from behind a tree?

Hoarfrost in my garden may be the touch of fairies but it's a sign of impending winter, at least here. Capturing it is of course a race between getting it properly lit and it suddenly melting in the sunlight. One morning in October I came down to breakfast and /wow/ grabbed the camera and took about 15 shots before I even made coffee. Definitely worth it!

This is a fall shot on a bright, sunny, and very windy day. I loved the shape of the leaves but nothing worked until I went to monochrome and cranked around with the contrast and luminosity. Somehow I knew the image was there but I just couldn't find it.

Lazy day, lazy stream, and a delightful fall day's walk. The next day it was 45 F and raining, so take great days when they present themselves! This is about a mile away from my house in the City of Chaska, a real gift.

After a day-long soaking rain, temps drop significantly overnight, and presto: deep morning fog. Love it! Maybe its just a holdover from Halloween.

Leaves in my own backyard, rimmed with hoarfrost. Sights like this are one of the benefits of the changing of the seasons in Minnesota.
