Another stunning glacier seen along Glacier Alley, in the Darwin Range. Patagonia, Chile.
This one also has several beautiful waterfalls from the ice melt. Zoom for a closer look, both at the ice and at the etchings it has carved into the rock face below.

This glacier is even a bit more off the beaten path. Only small vessels can traverse the narrow fjord to get to this location. Shout out to the #StellaAustralis and #collette Tours for getting us here.
On the sunny warm day we visited, we were able to witness multiple calvings of this tremendous wall of ice. Hiking next to it we saw so many details of this massive ice field located within the Darwin Range. Awe inspiring.
Zoom to see more details of the ice, and the varying hues caused by the minerals and ground rocks accumulated as the ice moves ever toward the sea.

Cruised along Glacier Alley, in the Magellan Straits of Chile, seeing several huge glaciers from the Darwin Range. Magnificent massive ice fields against crystal blue skies. The glaciers in this area were so huge, the early European explorers named them after countries.
Those "small" white objects in the water are chunks of ice that have fallen from the various glaciers in the area. The water was so calm and the weather was warm and beautiful--- not at all what we were expecting, nor the norm.

The Pia Glacier is located in a fjord of the Beagle Channel and descends from the Darwin Mountain Range. It’s similar in area to Chile’s capital city, Santiago.
Note, the right arm of the glacier has almost completely melted.
