As it has done since 1904, the most recent South Carolina State Fair opened on October 9, 2024 at the fairgrounds on Rosewood Drive. In Columbia. Only during the 1918 national influenza outbreak has the fair not operated in South Carolina. (In 2020, there was a "fair food" festival held during the Covid outbreak instead of the traditional fair where cars could drive through the fairgrounds parking lot and order fair food from their vehicle.)
The South Carolina State Fair is a self-supporting 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

The humbi people were always known for their different hairstyles. This tradition almost totally faded away during the civil war in Angola but since about 2 decades; the tradition has had a revival. This Humbi girl is wearing the well-known "elephant ears" as a rite of passage. From being a girl to becoming a woman.
