A Metra BNSF Line pauses at Hinsdale. "Dinky" is what Chicago Burlington & Quincy RR called the commuter trains on its line and that appellation has persisted somewhat to today.
Of all of the Metra lines, the BNSF Line has the widest age gap in its equipment. It is possible to see coaches from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s--all on the same train. Coach #7295 was built by Budd circa 1978-1980. The coach on the right was built by either Morrison-Knudsen or Amerail (or even Nippon-Sharyo) sometime between 1994 and 2005.
Commuter trains on Metra's BNSF Line are nicknamed "Dinkies". This dates back to the Chicago Burlington & Quincy (Burlington Route) days.
Although one of Metra's busiest lines, it has some of the oldest equipment. Car #7111 was built by Budd in 1977. The adjacent car, also a Budd product, was built for the Burlington in the 1950s or 1960s.
