Grand Central Terminal
Grand Central Terminal (TCG) é um terminal ferroviário na 42nd Street e Park Avenue, em Midtown Manhattan, em Nova York. Construído e nomeado pela New York Central Railroad no auge do transporte ferroviário de passageiros americano de longa distância, abrange 48 acres (19 ha) e tem 44 plataformas, mais do que qualquer outra estação ferroviária do mundo. Suas plataformas, todas abaixo do solo, servem 41 linhas no nível superior e 26 no inferior, embora o número total de linhas ao longo de plataformas exceda 100.
Embora o terminal seja chamado corretamente "Grand Central Terminal" desde 1913, "sempre foi mais coloquialmente e carinhosamente conhecido como Grand Central Station", que é o nome da estação precedente no mesmo local, e também o nome do a estação de US Post Office ao lado, que não faz parte do terminal
Grand Central Terminal apresenta espaços monumentais e detalhes meticulosamente trabalhados. Em um artigo de fevereiro 2013 do BBC News, o historiador David Cannadine a descreveu como um dos edifícios mais majestosos do século XX. Em 2013, a Grand Central Terminal foi visitada por 21,6 milhões de visitantes, tornando-a uma das dez atrações turísticas mais visitadas em todo o mundo.
Grand Central Terminal
Grand Central Terminal (GCT) is a commuter (and former intercity) railroad terminal at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Built by and named for the New York Central Railroad in the heyday of American long-distance passenger rail travel, it covers 48 acres (19 ha) and has 44 platforms, more than any other railroad station in the world. Its platforms, all below ground, serve 41 tracks on the upper level and 26 on the lower, though the total number of tracks along platforms and in rail yards exceeds 100.
Although the terminal has been properly called "Grand Central Terminal" since 1913, it has "always been more colloquially and affectionately known as Grand Central Station", which is the name of the previous rail station on the same site, and also the name of the U.S. Post Office station next door which is not part of the terminal
Grand Central Terminal features both monumental spaces and meticulously crafted detail. In a February 2013 BBC News article, historian David Cannadine described it one of the most majestic buildings of the twentieth century. In 2013, Grand Central Terminal hosted 21.6 million visitors, rendering it one of the ten most-visited tourist attractions worldwide.
