After hurricane Milton took out a large oak between our homes we decided that instead of paying someone to remove the stump we would simply plant some bushes and plants around it making it a feature in the landscape. We're going to try ixoras in front and a mega red dipladenia on the stump itself. We'll see how it goes.

I believe when we bought this plant (about two years ago), it was supposed to be one from the Ixora line. We have quite a lot of Ixoras and in our climate and soil they have proved to be hardy and wonderful flowerers. For some reason, while this one started out as a reasonable sized plant from the Bunnings nursery, from the time it went into the ground it just went backward, shrinking until it ended up being a tiny little thing about 3 inches long, if that.

But it never gave up and neither did I. It is surrounded by Pentisses and a flowering garlic and has hardly grown over the last 12 months but nevertheless, it has hung in there. Just the other day I noticed it had flowered, a couple of tiny little pink things. My dodgy back still precluded me from getting any closer from any angle but above but I wanted to pay a small tribute to its brave struggle and wish it all the best to become a big plant that will make us all proud.
