A Chance to Meet Rio by MTSOfan

A Chance to Meet Rio

Elmwood Park Zoo has just announced the arrival of a female ocelot named Rio. She has not yet been introduced to Mateo, the male ocelot, but lives in a habitat near his. The two will one day be roommates.

Rio seemed okay with me, but reacted when Janice walked up next to me. I think it's because Janice was wearing a hood, fluffy scarf, and sunglasses.

Ocelot - wild

The ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) is a medium-sized spotted wild cat that reaches 40–50 cm (16–20 in) at the shoulders and weighs between 7 and 15.5 kg (15 and 34 lb) on average. This is a female - photographed at Pantanal - Brazil.

The ocelot is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and is threatened by habitat destruction, hunting, and traffic accidents. While its range is very large, various populations are decreasing in many parts of its range. The association of the ocelot with humans dates back to the Aztec and Incan civilizations; it has occasionally been kept as a pet. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocelot\
