Today was one of those days. No creative impulse, not a lot of ideas regarding what to do for today's photo. I should've planned a meeting with a friend or something. At least gotten out of the house. I've been thinking that these kinds of projects really feed on your day-to-day experiences. A boring day kind of equals a boring photo. Now, don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean you should go out every day and leave no time for introspection (I actually believe that to be a very important part of your life), but when you just want to crawl into bed and watch movies all day, fun as that is, you’re probably operating in low-power mode and it isn’t exactly your most creative day. Anyway, it’s all about discipline; as with most things in life, you can’t just expect that the love for the medium will get you through a whole year of hard work: at some point, you gotta put the hard work in.

So, today I revisited an old favourite: the fun shot. Just taking a photo that would make you smile, come up with a silly title. I used my trusty old Danbo (which I’m sad to admit has been gathering dust this last few years). I played around a bit with a couple of options, different ways of lighting it, until I came up with this photo. I placed the Neewer VK 750-II at camera right, at around 120º, propped up on a light stand about 20 cm higher than the Danbo was and fired it at about 1/4 power using the in-camera flash to trigger it. I modified it with my trusty-old Neewer Mini-Softbox. That’s pretty much it :)

Hoy fue uno de esos días. Cero impulso creativo, cero ideas para la foto de hoy. Debí haber planeado una reunión con un amigo o algo por el estilo… al menos salir de casa. Se me ocurre que esta clase de proyectos se alimentan de lo que uno hace día a día; un día aburrido casi siempre equivale a una foto aburrida. Ahora, no me malinterpreten, eso no significa que uno deba salir todos los días y evitar los momentos de introspección a toda costa (de hecho creo que esos momentos son absolutamente necesarios), pero cuando uno simplemente quiere arrastrarse hasta la cama y quedarse todo el día viendo películas, por divertido que sea, probablemente se está funcionando en modo de ahorro de energía y no se trata precisamente del día más creativo que se pueda imaginar. En todo caso, estos proyectos se tratan de disciplina; como ocurre con la mayoría de las cosas en la vida, uno no puede esperar que el amor al arte sea suficiente para conquistar un año entero de trabajo duro: en algún momento, uno tiene que realmente HACER ese trabajo duro

Así que hoy revisité un viejo favorito: la foto divertida. Sólo tomar una foto de esas que te sacan una sonrisa, ingeniarse un título gracioso. El sujeto de hoy fue mi viejo Danbo (que me apena admitir que ha estado acumulando polvo estos últimos años). Jugué con un par de opciones diferentes, esquemas de iluminación, hasta que conseguí esta foto. No es la mejor foto que he tomado, pero la verdad me sorprende haber tomado alguna foto hoy XD.

Puse mi confiable Neewer VK-550 a la derecha de la cámara, en un ángulo de unos 120º, montado en un Lightstand que superaba la altura del sujeto por unos veinte centímetros y disparó a 1/4 de potencia usando el flash de la cámara como gatillo. El modificador que seleccioné fue el Mini-Softbox de Neewer. Eso es todo :)
