Spring Blossoms Golden Gate Park San Francisco 20240226-151243A

I made this photo of three trees with Spring blossoms during Melody's and my visit to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in late February 2024. This was the first photo of the visit. The trees were in the park, though we were still across the street that we would cross before entering the park. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Please Touch Imperial Philodendron huge leaf Conservatory of Flowers Golden Gate Park San Franciso 20240130-150122V

The Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park is a five gallery exhibition of living flowers, plants, and trees. It is like a museum of tropical plants. Like most places that contain sensitive exhibits, whether art, animals, or plants, we would expect a sign asking us not to touch. Not during this visit to the Victorian Greenhouse. The information sign next to the giant Imperial Philodendron leaves reads: Please Touch! This huge leaf (is) from the Imperial Philodendron. Look up to see the huge vine on which it grew.
Hanging aerial roots allow this vine to absorb water from rainfall, while the rest of the plant climbs to the canopy in search of sunlight.
Pretty neat!

Dog doing flips for owner Ocean Beach San Francisco 20110321-145146V

Sometimes photo opportunities come in pairs as did this photo I made of a dog doing flips for its owner at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. The second image capture of this young woman and her pet is in the slide following this one. Many people and their dogs visit ocean beach every day, rain or shine. This couple looks like they have done this many times before. Shot using a Canon EOS 60D in March 2011.

Dog doing flips for owner at Ocean Beach San Francisco 20110321-145201

I found this photo in my archives when I was searching for a dog photo to print for a friend. I not only found the photo of her dog that I took over 10 years ago, but found this image cropped to 4X6. I had captured this image in RAW on my Canon EOS 60D back in 2011. The 60D could produce both raw and jpeg files for the same image. Since I have not experimented with raw in a long time, I did not try to bring out the original image that was much silhouetted but cropped the 4X6 to 5X7 – an easier procedure than reediting the original.

Lantern, Pogoda Gate, landscaping Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park 20171103-100819

This photo of a lantern, pagoda gate, and landscaping is the third of four that I made in the span of a minute and one half while visiting the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in November 2017. That was the pre pandemic period where I would often visit the 1017 acre park after dropping Melody at her Friday morning quilting class. Fridays between 9 and 10 was also one of the three days of the week that admission was free at the Japanese Tea Garden. I shot this using a Canon Powershot SX50.

Stairway to Sutro Baths ruins Point Lobos Lands End Northwest corner of San Francisco 20190118-103314B

I made this photo as I was descending the stairs carved into the hillside at Lands End at the northwest corner of San Francisco. on a high surf warning day on January 18, 2019. The pool of water between the whitecaps and the bottom of the stairs is the Sutro Baths ruins. This is the cropped version of the original image that had more stairs in the foreground. This area is designed to protect the delicate vegetation, with several fenced areas and signs to keep people on the designated paths. If you look closely, you may be able to see seagulls enjoying the large pool of water in the main bath area. As usual in these last many years, i shot this using a Canon Powershot SX50.

I made this photo of a couple taking photos on the ruins of Sutro Baths at Land End in the northwest corner of San Francisco in January of 2019. This image preceeds the image of the young woman alone in the following slide that was taking using the telephoto capabilities of my Canon Powershot SX50. The ocean in the background was particularly active this day as it was a high surf warning day.

Young woman walking Sutro Baths ruins Lands End San Francisco 20190118-111634

I made this photo of a young woman walking along the cement ruins of Sutro Baths located at the northwest
corner of San Francisco.
The Sutro Baths was a large, privately owned public saltwater swimming pool complex in the Lands End area of the Outer Richmond District in western San Francisco, California. Built in 1894, the Sutro Baths was located north of Ocean Beach, the Cliff House, Seal Rocks, and west of Sutro Heights Park. Source: Wikipedia
The Sutro Baths closed in 1966, and burned down in June of the same year, some say under suspicious circumstances. The Baths were scheduled to be developed into housing and a shopping center, but were saved by public sentiment and purchased by the National Park Service in 1980.
I took this from a high vantage point using my Canon Powershot SX50.

I made this photo of the historic Palace of Fine Arts on May 15, 2022 before our scheduled photo shoot of a high school graduate friend of ours.
The Palace of Fine Arts is a monumental structure located in the Marina District of San Francisco, California, originally constructed for the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition to exhibit works of art. Completely rebuilt from 1964 to 1974, it is the only structure from the exposition that survives on site. Source: Wikipedia.

Magnolias growing close to ground Japanese Tea Garden San Francisco's Golden Gate Park 20210325-084310

I made this photo of magnolia flowers at the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on March 25, 2021. As usual when visiting public places early in the second year of Covid-19, Melody and I do so early in the day when business or other venues open. The beautiful magnolia flowers were growing on a tree that looked almost like a bush, as it was growing close to the ground rather that in the form of a towering tree. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50. The time on my camera was an hour early, since I had not corrected the camera clock during the latest time change that month.

Water lily up close Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park 20170606-160639

I made this photo of this glowing water lily in the Aquatic Plants room during a visit to the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. There are five galleries in the Victorian Greenhouse and the Aquatic Plants gallery is the most humid of the five. Water lilies grow from pots resting at the bottom of the pond. The pond is not very large, the water lilies seldom grow near the water's edge and a telephoto lens helped show off the true splendor of this beautiful. I shot this using center weighted focus on my Canon Powershot SX50.

I made this photo of a friend's daughter posing in her high school graduation cap and gown with the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco's Marina District as background on May 15, 2022. This is the first of a series of 32 images of the shoot. Some images are cropped versions of the original. I uploaded all images as private and released them one at a time over the last several months. They are in chronological order in the album Miriam Photos May 15, 2022. Melody and I teamed up taking the photos, both of us using our Canon Powershot SX50. Since we shot the images in early afternoon, the natural light is from the side.
