Built in 1920 and delivered new to East Tanfield Colliery Andrew Barclay Works No 1659, 'Stanley'. By 1950 it was NCB Number 32 and was allocated to Marley Hill shed on the Bowes system.
Fast Forward to 2025 and 'Stanley' is seen pulling away from the very same Marley Hill shed only a mile or two away from it's original home. The locomotive was restored to operation in 2023 and now carries a fully lined green livery.

Furness Railway No 20 is the oldest working standard gauge steam locomotive in the country. It was visiting Tanfield for their Great North Festival of Railways events during May.
The 1863 vintage 0-4-0 enjoyed a lively battle with the 1 in 40 bank out of East Tanfield and the cool damp conditions resulted in a spectacular display of steam.

The Tanfield Railway, which is claimed to be the oldest railway in the world, is a standard gauge heritage railway in County Durham, England. Running on part of a former colliery wooden wagonway, later a steam railway, it operates preserved industrial diesel and steam tank locomotives. The line runs for three miles between a southern terminus at East Tanfield and a northern terminus at Sunniside, with the main station, Andrews House, situated near to the Marley Hill engine shed. A halt also serves the historic site of Causey Arch.
