7681 - Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn shunter, Agecroft No 3'

This locomotive was built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn in 1951. Originally it was intended to work at Bolton power station but after a couple of years on loan to Chadderton power station it moved to Agecroft colliery in 1954 where it became 'Agecroft No 3'.
In 1957 the power station passed into the ownership of the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB), who made their three locomotives redundant when a conveyor belt was constructed to bring the coal supplies in directly from Agecroft colliery. This locomotive's last day of operation at Agecroft was in September 1981. The three locomotives were all built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn, with Works Nos. 7416, 7493 and 7681, and all three have been preserved.
7681 was initially preserved at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester but was disposed of from there in 2000 when it moved to Long Marston in Warwickshire. It later moved to Swindon where it spent many years on static display at the Museum of the Great Western Railway. The locomotive was then purchased by the Whitwell & Reepham Railway to be restored.
By August 2020 the boiler had been tested at the North Norfolk Railway and the locomotive was return to steam at the Whitwell & Reepham Railway by the end of the year. 7681 returned to service at the Whitwell & Reepham Railway in February 2022.

0-4-0CT, Crane Tank, Marley Hill Yard, Tanfield Railway. 19.02.2023.

I believe this to be one of two crane tanks at the Tanfield Railway. The two locomotives (Works Nos 7006 & 7007) had been supplied by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn to William Doxford and Sons, Sunderland, in 1940. They were to a Hawthorn Leslie design dating from 1918.
The crane tanks were used in the ship yards for moving plates of steel.
No. 7006 "Roker" is on loan to the Beamish Museum.
This locomotive must be no. 7007 "Hendon".
