Showing just what a Peppercorn A1 Pacific in good fettle is made of, 60163 'Tornado' made a storming run from Crewe after leaving 13L.
Captured here in torrential rain passing Winwick with 'The Illuminati' from Birmingham New St to Preston. The tour was later diesel hauled to Blackpool North with Tornado being turned on the Lostock Hall triangle for this evenings return leg.
* 60163 in 2017 became the first steam locomotive in Britain to achieve 100 mph since 1967.

More a case of why not (I was heading down the M6 past Chorley) rather than a fully committed walk to watch a steam train. There was a walk involved - 100 yards from Euxton Balshaw Lane station car park. It was then a game of slow or fast line on the footbridge. 60163 Tornado was sent thundering along the fast line as the rain tippled down. The excursion was headed for Blackpool, hence the Illuminati headboard, although usually the word has been connected to smart-arse secret societies through history!
60163 "Tornado" is seen heading north through Wigan Boars Head G.F. working the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust "The Illuminati" 1Z57 11:39 Birmingham New Street to Blackpool North on the 2nd November 2019.

The A1 Steam Trust's Class A1 No. 60163 'Tornado' steams through Bescot Stadium on 2nd November 2019 while heading their 'Illuminati' charter, 1Z57 1139 Birmingham New Street - Blackpool North. Its passing coincided with the arrival of West Midlands Railways 2W26, 1201 Walsall - Wolverhampton via Birmingham New Street service, formed of Class 323 EMU No. 323242, and thus providing an interesting comparison of trains of different generations. The person in the yellow coat is, I believe, ensuring that 'Tornado' passes without incident, which if that being the case, should spend less time watching the train and instead get into a position where he can see everyone on the platform.
