The name comes from the Ossetian word sugan - "onion" and is associated with the abundance of wild onions on the southern slopes of the Digor Range. Mount Sugan is located on the border of Kabardino-Balkaria and North Ossetia, the northern and western slopes, on the territories of Kabardino-Balkaria, and the southern and eastern slopes are partially located on the territories of North Ossetia. To the west of the mountain is another significant massif of Gulchi-Tau, with the peaks of Gulchi-Tau, Rtsyvashki, Komsomol peak of Ukraine and others. The peak is the highest in the Sugan ridge, the height of the peak reaches 4487 m.

Вершина является самой высокой в Суганском хребте высота вершины достигает 4487 м.
