get everywhere, dont they ;-) ?!?!
I have to say that it makes my day when I see good friends at running days and rallies, and it was especially fgood to see fellow flickrite 13618 (Graeme), who owns this wonderful and very roucous sounding Mk 2 B National. Now normally where ever Graeme is, either Woody or Terry wont be far behind, and sure enough the biggest trouble starter in the West Midlands was not far behind, recanting his fantastic storied (Which I love to listen too), of his many long years on the Red (Midland Red).
This photo was taken on Butts Lane in ALton, whilst this lovely machine was on a local service. I do hope the National is OK, as before we left I saw a few people crowded around the oil intake area of the vehicle (Offside rear), and looking very Pensive!
Hope everything is OK, and I think we will get to see you boys soon, most probrably Brislington, when I might just have the VR out and about.
If it wasn't for the pesky Traffic Lights, Road Signs and modern cars, which all tend to get in the way a lot at a running day when trying to recreate the past!
Seen on Whitedown Lane in West Alton, is another bus that I know diddly squat about, apart from the fact it is a Queen Mary, and looks rather nice in the original Southdown livery that I guess it once carried? (I would also hazard a guess that this monster has no power steering and a heavy clutch/box, due to the driver struggling for position on site).
I am a very honest enthusiast, and dont know everything about all vehicles, which must make me, well NORMAL ish ;-)
Ummm Hmmmm!
What a tremendous machine, and one that had me openly salivating at the roadside (Ask Stu!).
This wonderful Plaxton Supreme IV bodied Leyland Tiger 245 (Semi), is owned by Brijan Tours of Botley, and is in the old livery of Eassons of Southampton.
I photographed this at about 2pm whilst this coach was heading away from the Running Day (Why so early??), but at least I got to hear her at full clack, and boy did my hairs tingle, but not quite as much as a Leyland engined RE ;-).
I would pay good money for a coach like this, but will have to be content with my VR, of which I get to play with tomorrow (Yeah).
Well not really, but it looks near enough ;-)
Another photo taken whilst out and about on our travels during the Alton Running Day 2010, shows BMMO C5 whilst traversing one of the local routes. On a very warm Summers day. We were making our way to the pub (See next photo), for the ladies to "Do what they Do best!".
I always found the BMMO coaches a little strange, and they were definetely in the category of you either Loved them or Hated them, I didnt feel that strongly either way, but found the design to be very ecclectic, if that is the righ turn of phrase??
If it was not for that BMW 330 in the driveway behind, I could have taken this shot at any point in the early 1970's.
