“These three astronauts are the prime crew of the Apollo 13 lunar landing mission. Left to right, are James A. Lovell Jr., commander; John L. Swigert Jr., command module pilot; and Fred W. Haise Jr., lunar module pilot.”

Is that a good old 1969 Rand McNally moon globe? Looks pretty big, maybe not.

PER ASPERA AD ASTRA...rest in peace gentlemen, your sacrifice will (hopefully) never be forgotten.

At/from the official NASA posting. At least someone managed to muster the cursory "editor's note":

"This is the insignia for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Apollo 1 mission, the first manned Apollo flight. Crew members are astronauts Virgil I. Grissom, Edward H. White II and Roger B. Chaffee. The NASA insignia design for Apollo flights is reserved for use by the astronauts and for other official use as the NASA Administrator may authorize. Public availability has been approved only in the form of illustrations by the various news media. When and if there is any change in this policy, which we do not anticipate, it will be publicly announced. EDITOR'S NOTE: The three astronauts lost their lives in a fire during a simulation on the launch pad on Jan. 27, 1967."

“APOLLO 7 COMES HOME—Silver-colored Apollo spacecraft command module enters atmosphere near the conclusion of the 11-day manned mission in this artist’s drawing by North American Rockwell Corporation’s Space Division. In the first manned Apollo flight later this year, the crew members are (left to right) Walter M. Schirra Jr., commander; Walter Cunningham, command module pilot, and Donn Eisele, lunar module pilot. The Space Division produces the Apollo spacecraft command and service modules for NASA’s Manned Spacecraft Center.”

Possibly by the hand of Henry Lozano Jr.?

Note the similarity to Davis Meltzer's depiction for National Geographic magazine:

The Apollo spacecraft that carried three men to the moon is expanded to a four-man cargo craft for use until the space station/shuttle becomes operational, in this concept by North American Rockwell's Space Division, Downey, Calif. The Command/Service Module would require minor modifications and could serve the space program as a space tug/cargo module, for long duration Earth or lunar missions.

NAR, 1969: Donald Bester? Henry Lozano? Manuel E. Alvarez?

I've kept my previous guess of what this was depicting (below), in order to still have the links:

Possible depiction of NAA's proposed "Lunar Orbit Rescue" CSM, ca. 1965?

If so, see the following for interesting reading regarding the proposal:

North American Aviation, prime contractor for the 3-manned Apollo spacecraft, shows a preliminary full-scale model. Approximately 13' wide and 12' high, an astronaut is shown in his couch flying the spacecraft, the second sleeping and the third taking a navigational bearing. They will wear light comfortable coveralls while on their 2 1/2-day journey to the vicinity of the moon.

This had to have been one of the THE most published pre-Apollo photos...I think it was in every encyclopedia, Worldbook Annual, Science News Service, Weekly Reader, Scholastic something or another...I can't remember the name...and more.

Rather spacious, and has that wonderful 50's/60's sci-fi movie look & feel to it.

Not totally accurate, but I like it.

Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong waves to well-wishers in the hallway of the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building as he, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin prepare to be transported to Launch Complex 39A. Accompanying them a few hours before the start of their historic lunar landing mission is Donald K. (Deke) Slayton, Director of Flight Crew Operations.
