Realizzato da Botticelli per la villa Medicea di Castello, oggi il dipinto è custodito all’interno della Galleria degli Uffizi di Firenze. Il dipinto viene commissionato a Sandro Botticelli dalla famiglia dei Medici, probabilmente da Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco dei Medici. L’opera è stata realizzata tra il 1482 e il 1482 circa, negli stessi anni della realizzazione della Primavera.
Also known as Botticelli's Venus, the Birth of Venus is a tempera painting on linen canvas, and is one of the most famous paintings in the world. A symbol of the Italian Renaissance, which has become the ideal of feminine beauty, it is a pure and spiritual representation of beauty, as well as one of the most important nudes in the history of art. Created by Botticelli for the Medici villa in Castello, the painting is now housed in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The painting was commissioned to Sandro Botticelli by the Medici family, probably by Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de' Medici. The work was created between 1482 and 1482 approximately, in the same years as the creation of Primavera.
