L-R: Myself [Leighton Smith, Christ Kennedy, the late Peter McKenzie, Cushla McKenzie [husband & wife later], Jude Vermeulen [married name as I've forgotten her maiden name apologies]. A priceless capture by friend Tony Jenkins. To the bottom left is the rear mudguard of my 1979 Honda XR500 motorbike I rode up to Queenstown/Arthur's Point on. The others pictured here were in their own cars. I was the youngest member of our group at 19 years old. The others here are all around 21. We had so much fun that Christmas. Another friend Steve Peters also attended. What is interesting is the fashions...me - well as I was a dedicated 'biker' naturally all I was interested in wearing was Levi's denim jeans and as I was also a sportsman [I had joined the Invercargill Rowing Club plus I had completed 2 marathons & half marathons] singlet, and customary NZ jandals on feet!, Chris was wearing an excellent 'XTC' band T-Shirt with Levi's jeans and jandals, Pete wore a more fashionable T-Shirt and the girls wearing typical '80s colors. Our lives were never the same again.
Wyndham Park, Grantham. This sculpture 'War Horse' by Chris Kennedy from Roll and Scroll metal fabricators features a dog and a pigeon, with an inscription paying tribute to the role of animals in conflict.
Created between 1912-24 the Park is close to the main shopping area, but is a calm and tranquil space. Given a near £1million restoration which was completed in September 2018. It has held a Green Flag award for 8 years.
