Farmers are the unsung heroes of our society, tirelessly working the land to nourish the community. They brave the elements, from scorching sun to harsh winters, all to cultivate various crops and raise animals that sustain us. With dedication and perseverance, these heroes grow vegetables, grains, and fruits while caring for dairy cows to supply milk and other essential products. Their hard work often goes unnoticed, yet they play a crucial role in ensuring food security and supporting local economies. In every harvest, they embody resilience and commitment, making them true heroes.
This dairy farm has been in this family for over 100 years!
Remember, if you ate today, thank a Farmer!
A reminder of the days of urban farms and dairies. A 1912 advert for Manley's Model Dairy who appear to have been based on Revelstoke Road in the growing suburbs and on a farm, Wimbledon Park Farm or Ashen Grove Farm, that may have been largely subsumed into Wimbledon Park.
Even by 1912 the 'big' regional and national dairy chains, who supplied milk in bulk to such urabn areas, were winning out so it is interesting to see an example of a diary that obviously still kept its own cows and was billed as a cowkeeper and dairyman. Manley's still appear in official records in 1924/25 so appear to have survived WW1. The whole area, including the wider Wimbledon Park area, is an example of the encroachment of housing on what had been a major estate sold for development and here the local Council, in the early years of the Twentieth Century, stepped in to try and limit development, the loss and preservation of open space.
The advert takes the form of a 'hand' as mentioned in the text, 'holding' a view of the farm and a milk cart.
Prompt: a detailed fine art painting of a dairy farm, with a large barn in the background and a pickup truck in the foreground. The barn has a sign that reads "Dairy Shop" and "Connecticut" The truck is yellow with rusty spots and is parked in front of the barn. There are cows grazing in the field to the right of the barn. The sky is overcast with a few clouds. The ground is covered in snow. The painting has a nostalgic, old-timey feel. The style of Norman Rockwell --ar 14:11 --v 6.1
