While taking in views at the Simonton St Beach View (Google Maps reference) with a view looking to the southeast across the shoreline to nearby waves coming in and then more distant waters of the Florida Strait. This is located in Key West, Florida. In composing this image, I wanted to get down low near the shoreline and angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward, raising the horizon higher into the image. I did this because I wanted to show more of the waves coming in as well as minimize what I felt was more of a negative space with the overcast skies. The rest was centering the ship along the horizon and working an exposure, so that I could bring out more colors for final processing.
Sunset, Puget Sound
Elliot Bay is part of the Puget Sound on the pacific northwest coast of the United States. The city of Seattle, Washington was founded on the bay, and has become the home of the Port of Seattle, one of the largest shipping parts in the United States.
Myrtle Edwards Park is a public park in downtown Seattle composed of a strip of land along Elliot Bay.
"I didn't have a long visit, but although a bit difficult to get to I found this park to be one of the nicer and prettier downtown park areas I've ever visited. Grand views including Mt. Ranier to the south." - John

During the docking at Boca Chita Harbor within Biscayne National Park, with a view towards the northwest towards the namesake lighthouse, I captured this image by looking across the harbor waters with Biscayne Bay and blue skies with clouds as a backdrop. I felt those brighter colors in blue helped to stand out against the earth-tones with the lighthouse more and act as a color contrast.
Renovation equipment was on hand at the lighthouse and later used Photoshop to remove that in the image captured. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 8. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 7 where I added a Polarization, Foliage, and Pro Contrast filter.

"This is an pretty old image where I believe I was testing out the 17-40mm L. I didn't keep the lens that long, but it did a pretty decent job." - John

September 20, 2024 - The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a National Historic Landmark. We will be riding it from Silverton to Durango, Colorado.
Since I was a teenager it has been on my bucket list to ride this train. I was disappointed however that we were booked on the excursion being pulled by a diesel locomotive and not a steam engine.
"The line was constructed to haul silver & gold ore from Southwest Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, but passengers soon realized it was the view that was truly precious.
This historic train has been in continuous operation between Durango and Silverton since 1882, carrying passengers behind historic steam and diesel locomotives and rolling stock indigenous to the line. It is a family-friendly ride sure to create memories that will last a lifetime while offering a view of Colorado’s mountain splendor inaccessible by highway. Relive the sights and sounds of yesteryear for a spectacular journey on board the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad." Previous text: www.durangotrain.com
