After some 1946 prototype models, and the 1949 Austin Pathfinder pedal car the Austin Junior Car Factory in Bargoed, South Wales came with a new children's pedal car. Unlike it's predecessors this Junior 40 (in short J40) was a success.
It was built from waste material from the Austin plant in Longbridge, and was based on the 1947 Austin A40 series.
This J40 was quite luxurious. It had battery powered horn and headlights. And the bonnet and the boot lid could be opened.
Further more it had a real dashboard and the seat had imitation leather upholstery.
At first many J40's went for export to the US. Later also Canada, Denmark and the Netherlands became export destinations.
This Austin J40 was seen in the shop window of garage company Autohuset Vanløse.
I guess this toy car was for sale.
There is even an Austin J40 Pedal Car Club, founded in 1983: www.austinj40pedalcarclub.co.uk/index.html
There are many videos on which the Austin J40 is acting, for instance: www.google.com/search?sca_esv=b848d1a43a479422&udm=7&...
The Austin J40 pedal car is still very popular. Roy Halford started the J40 Motor Company to produce spare parts for this little pedal car. Restoring J40s is also part of its business.
Production real A40 Devon/Dorset: 1947-1952.
