06/52 Europaplein

52 Weeks Project

After my selfies at Mercatorplein and Valeriusplein last year I wanted to choose more Amsterdam squares as a decor of my "52-Weeks" project...
Location: Europaplein, Amsterdam Zuid (NL)
Coordinates: 52°20'29.6"N 4°53'35.7"E (Google Maps)
Reason: A "fallfie" from an art object on one of the squares on my list for my selfies on a square in Amsterdam.
Europaplein: Europaplein is a square in Amsterdam-Zuid. The metro station Europaplein of line 52 is named after it. The square consists of a road and the area in front of the RAI complex. The other side of the road is also called Europaplein and on the site of the former turning loop of tram line 4 there is a small park.
Virtual Fountains: I am jumping here of an art objcet made by Femke Schaap and inaugurated in the year 2022. Named Virtual Fountains.
Virtual fountains is a three-part artistic work of art in which the three parts are again divided. Artist Femke Schaap (born 1972, graduated from the Sandberg Institute) combined terrazzo cast stone with Norwegian marble. An addition are light projections. When they are in the light they look like street furniture; built-in seats, but then bright white. Some surfaces of the “furniture” have been provided with reliefs by etching that are supposed to remind us of flowing water. In the dark between dusk and dusk, light projections show virtual water, which runs along the constructions and splashes from them.

29/52 Borély

52 Weeks Project

During my stay in Marseille I visited a different corner of the city....
Location: Parc or Jardin Borély, 8ème arrondissement Marseille (F)
Coordinates: 43°15'35.4"N 5°22'49.4"E (Google Maps)
Reason: During my 27ème overnight in Marseille I walked from Castellane over the Avenue de Prado towards the beaches and I saw this park on my left. The problem to find a location for a self portrait was solved.
Parc Borély: Parc Borély is a public municipal park in the city of Marseille in the 8ème arrondissment in the quartier Bonneveine. t is classified by the Ministry of Culture as one of the Remarkable Gardens of France. The park is 17 hectares in size. It adjoins the Jardin botanique E.M. Heckel. Parc Borély has three different gardens; a Garden à la française, facing the bastide, composed of a two lawns, a circular basin and a rectangual basin, and double rows of trees, between the avenue du Prado and the gates of the park:
The park was created in the 17th century by a French ship owner and merchant, Joseph Borely, who bought land for a country house, the Château Borély, in the area of Marseille called Bonneveine. The estate was enlarged in the 18th century by Joseph Borély, who constructed a bastide, or Provençal country house, on the domaine. The construction of the castle was finished at 1778.
