Wandering around Nottingham looking for people to approach for my stranger project, I happened to glance up a walkway that joined the street I was on. I saw a young lady heading in my direction and was immediately struck by the colour of her coat and hair and how well it went with the tones of the brick wall she was walking past. Abbie agreed to be photographed without hesitation and as the light was soft under the roof of the covered walkway, which allowed daylight through the opposite side to the wall I was using for the background, I didn’t have any problems taking the photograph.
Abbie is from Cambridge but had come to Nottingham to study fashion. Her course will last four years with the third being a placement year.
When not studying, Abbie enjoys shopping, painting a variety of subjects in acrylics, and performing ballet just for the fun of it.
I asked Abbie what single word she’d use to describe herself and she said caring.
If Abbie could change one thing in the world what would it be? “To get rid of war,” she said.
What is the one thing Abbie couldn’t live without? “My parents,” she replied.
If I could grant Abbie a wish, she said it would be to become a fashion designer for her own line rather than working for someone else.
Thank-you Abbie for saying yes to me photographing you for my project. I hope you like your portrait.
This picture is number 396 in my 100 Strangers project, yes, I’ve decided to do a fourth round. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

Fashion may fade with new trends coming in and out, but your style remains timeless because that constitutes your soul essence. The importance of timeless fashion in our modern society cannot be overstated. In a culture obsessed with the next big thing, there is something undeniably refreshing about pieces that withstand the test of time, retaining their allure and relevance season after season. Timeless fashion pieces not only offer longevity in terms of style but also represent a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and enduring beauty.
