Reasonably common lark in Spain in areas with meditterranean climate. The population is estimated to be in the region of 2 million pairs.
This one, along with the poppy, was photographed on the farm track down to the chapel of Ermita de San Frutos that sits spectacularly on the cliff top of the gorge carved by the Rio Duratón in the Hoces de la Duratón National Park. This is located in Sepulvéda, Segovia province in northern Spain.
The track is one of the best places in Spain for seeing lark species, with 6 species regularly occurring in the farmed land and scrub there.
