LACHMAN FIRE - 01/01/2025 12:17am
At 12:17am a vegetation fire was reported at 1699 Via Las Palmas Pacific Palisades, marking the first brush fire of 2025. At 1am a fire tornado can be seen above the homes of Pacific Palisades, one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country. LA County Fire Air Ops called on to make water drops to fight the fire. The fire burned at a slow rate up to 8 acres with six structures possibly threatened, but no evacuations were issued. The skyline of Downtown LA and Century City can be seen rising above severe fog and severe smog from fireworks on the right. Notice the black layer of fog and white layer of fog near the skyline. Fog absorbs and traps pollution in place, therefore a large black layer of fog near Downtown and a clean white layer of fog in the west side of Los Angeles where theres less pollution and more vegetation.
This is perhaps one of the best images I’ve ever captured. It is a 3-4second exposure from a single still taken from a timelapse. The air op aligned with the skyline along with the best still of the fire whirl.

A new processing job on a previously unseen photo. I took this while on a trip to the Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area on a beautiful "cloud day' back in February 2024 after a rainstorm.

July's Buck Moon illuminates smoke clouds over the Los Angeles skyline. Multiple fires, including the Hawarden Fire, Eagle Fire, Fork Fire, and Vista Fire rages, forcing evacuations and destroying homes across Southern California. This comes as the monsoon season brings dry lightning, strong wind gusts, and sparks dangerous wildfires.
