This marble base (each side seen here) once stood beneath the large bronze statue of Perseus with the Head of Medusa (also included in this set) in the Loggia dei Lanzi at the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy. It was under the explicit orders of Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici that Benvenuto Cellini executed the monumental bronze statue (which still stands in the Loggia) and this marble base. The work lasted 1550 to 1554. This marble pedestal is masterfully decorated with heraldic motifs (The Capricorn heads – the duke's emblem), mythological figures (Diane's herms at the corners), and grotesques. The base also comprises full-round bronze statues in the four niches depicting figures from the myth of Perseus, based Ovid's Metamorphoses – Jupiter, Mercury, Minerva and Danae with Perseus as a boy, explained by the Latins inscriptions (that were dictated by the humanist Benedetto Varchi) in the cartouches. After the restorations that were completed in the year 2000, this original base was replaced with a replica for conservation reasons and transferred to the Bargello.

Gold Parlor - First Floor - Notice the elaborate window treatment in this small recessed section in the tower portion of the room. The ivory and gold silk wallcovering is a reproduction as are the lace curtains which are suspended from rings on an exposed pole. The stained glass transom windows add just the right touch to this elegant Late Victorian period room. In the center is a marble column pedestal with an elegant antique porcelain jar on top. Just off to the side is an antique side chair with a family portrait on the wall above it.

The memorial was constructed in December 1971 and inaugurated by Indira Gandhi in 1972. Amar Jawan Jyoti is located under India Gate at Rajpath in New Delhi and consists of a marble pedestal on which a cenotaph is situated. "Amar Jawan" (Immortal Soldier) is scripted in gold on all four sides of the cenotaph and on top, a L1A1 self-loading rifle stands on its barrel with a helmet of the Unknown Soldier on top. The pedestal is bound by four urns, one of which holds a continuously burning flame.
