The Flickr Maybury Image Generatr

Probably easy to identify from a fleetlist as the conspicuous number 4 is easy tp see. A pair of ex West Midlands PTE Bristol VRTs await the axe at Ripleys in 1990 having come from Island coachways on the Isle of Wight and then Maybury's of Cranborne who tried for ages to unsuccessfully sell them in the back pages of Coachmart. Eventually they ended up here and I think the nearest vehicle is NOB417M which lingered in the yard for a while. The other one seems a bit nearer to it's demise. Very smart livery very Ensign looking. A negative I acquired with copyright ages ago it does have a bit of a colour cast.

This was about the time that Maybury was relocating from Dorset to inner South-West London , before "Big Bus" was born. FPR667V is seen here on hire to London Transport for the "Round London Sightseeing Tour"

THM 530M was one of a pair of 'Siamese Twin' DMSs, the other one being THM 526M, which stayed together for their whole lives, having operated for Western National and Midland Red (North) after leaving London. They arrived here in 1987, and put in over seven years work, but returned to London at the end of 1994, to work for Maybury's Big Bus tour operation as open-toppers.

Graham's, like so many other firms, found the ideal source of youthful double-deckers from 1980, that meant there was no need to buy more new ones. As a result, they operated around 20 DMS types from London over the next decade, although none lasted more than 4-5 years here, and just one was in stock at the end. D9 was one of the last to arrive in late 1984, and found new homes in Hampshire from 1988, but returned to London in the mid-90s, and spent several years in open-top form with the Big Bus tour fleet.
