N950WP is another ex Piedmont and USAir 737-300 that ended up in Western Pacific Airlines' colourful fleet. It advertised for the famous Stardust Resort & Casino, a resort that opened in 1958 on the Strip in Las Vegas, was acquired by the Boyd family in 1985, but closed doors in late 2006.

N950WP was captured on short finals to runway 26 at Sky Harbor, having additional Boyd Gaming insignias, and prominently featuring Ms. Aki in fin, a showgirl from the Las Vegas production "Enter the Night".

Built in 1985, N950WP was acquired by Western Pacific in August 1995, and sold to Southwest Airlines after their demise in April 1998. It was retired in 2016 at Tucson, and broken up there sometime after.

Departing Ft. Lauderdale, FL on March 8, 2016. This aircraft originally delivered to Piedmont Airlines back in May 1985 as N303P. To USAir via merger in August 1989; registered as N301AU. To Western Pacific Airlines in August 1995 as N950WP where it also wore the "Stardust Resort & Casino" special livery. Southwest picked it up in April 1998 and registered as shown.

"S/N" is the aircraft's serial number. "L/N" is a Boeing code denoting what order the airframe came off the production line. "F/N" refers to an individual airline's fleet numbering system. Not all airlines use a fleet number; not all manufacturers use a line number.

Western Pacific was one of the most colourful airlines ever, with some of the best known logojets...

Sadly the airline went out of business in February 1998 and this shot was taken just a week or two after Western Pacific stopped flying. A few of their logojets were parked in Denver at the time, awaiting their fate.

This Stardust logojet was evetually taken up by Southwest Airlines.
