The Flickr Nrex Image Generatr

This old B&O SD9 was being stripped of usable components when Mr. Hall and I visited NRE's Dixmoor facility in January of 2008. Apparently this unit had been sold to NRE in the late 80s and had sat around for nearly 20 years before they finally decided to cut t up. A few weeks later, it was gone.

CNW 5529 (ex NYC, PC, and CR) resting at NRE Paducah awaiting its fate. NREX has had this unit stored here for years, and up until recently, it was coupled to another CNW GP40.

NREX 9402 awaiting its fate at NRE in Paducah.

9402 was built as SSW 9402 as an SD45T-2 was rebuilt to an SD40-2 and received an SD40-2 hood, making an extra long back porch. This unit is one of a kind.

Former Southern Pacific GP40X (The "X" standing for Experimental) 7200 is photographed crossing Tehachapi Creek as part on an Intermodal working. It’s hard to believe that BNSF would be short of power during this period, assuming that 7200 was on lease from NREX (National Railway Equipment Company).
