Washington State. USA.
March 2025.
The landscape of the Columbia Basin was formed by millions of years of large scale volcanic eruptions, layering volcanic basalt rock. During the Ice Age, some of Earth's largest floods ever carved deep coulees, pot holes and channels into these layers, forming the dramatic canyons and volcanic rock formations now present in the Columbia Basin. A landscape carved by fire and water.
Drumheller Channels is a less traveled site for observing the forces of the elements. I spent more than half a day photographing the area and did not run into a single human soul.
The best time to visit is March/April.
