Kiskadee Nest Building

"Kiskadee Nest Building" by Patti Deters. A Great Kiskadee (Pitangus sulphuratus) is perched on a tree leafy branch, carefully carrying nesting material in its beak. The songbird displays its characteristic bright yellow underparts, contrasting with its brown back and wings, and a distinctive black and white striped head pattern. Its sturdy posture and focused gaze suggest its determination in the task of nest building. This passerine was photographed at Hazel-Bazemore Calallen Park in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. Pitangus sulphuratus - Bienteveo común o Bichofué - Great Kiskadee

Hemos detallado los numerosos nombres de esta especie en otra publicación, del 10 de enero (ver enlace abajo). Esta ave es bastante común en Loma Merchán. Aquí compartimos un primer plano que resalta claramente los detalles de su plumaje.

We’ve previously detailed the many names of this species in another post, dated January 10th (see link below). This bird is fairly common in Loma Merchán. Here, we share a close-up that beautifully highlights the intricate details of its plumage.

Great Kiskadee

One of the birds we most look forward to seeing during our south Texas birding adventure is the Great Kiskadee. We almost always see them at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park where we found this one.

From the Cornell Lab:
"Great Kiskadees are a treat for bird watchers who visit south Texas—and the birds won’t keep you waiting. They’re boisterous in both attitude and color: a black bandit’s mask, a yellow belly, and flashes of warm reddish-brown when they fly. Kiskadees sit out in the open and attract attention with incessant kis-ka-dee calls and sallying flights. Despite their small U.S. range, this is one of the most widespread flycatchers in the Western Hemisphere."

This will wrap up my series of bird posts from our latest trip. Tomorrow, random mode.
