The Flickr Lounge group has chosen Plastic for the weekend theme in week 12 of 2025.
My Swiss Army Knife has yellow plastic scales, a grey plastic handle to the mini-screwdriver and a white plastic toothpick.
It was great to have the good weather continuing for most of the day. We were in Bicester, helping look after Smaller Miss, who would normally be in nursery, but has chicken pox. She seemed to feel as right as rain, very bouncy and happy most of the time. We did lots of playing - Hot Wheels, Barbies, games - but also she helped with cutting up a bramble in the back garden, walked with me all the way into town and back (I needed to get some bananas, and wanted to visit the bike shop). Then she helped put up the play house, which was taken down during their garden reconstruction last year. We also cleaned it, as it had a thin layer of dust and dirt (algae too). After all that hard work, we sat down for a bit of TV, before her sister came home from school. We had a bit of time to spend with her too, but she was very tired after a hectic day at school, celebrating World Book Day. On our way home, we stopped for our meal at The Sherborne Arms, and had a tasty vegetarian lasagne, salad and chips. I then did a bit more LEGO sorting, but still have long way to go!
What's really odd obout the coloration variation of the handle scales on this knife, is not how different they are. But that they didn't show nearly that difference before applying the mineral oil.
Some purist knife collectors would scoff at such a difference. I however, really like how they stand out on their own. What was once a drab and dried up looking affair, is now an eye catching beauty.

...is the aroma of Swiss Walnut in the morning, topped with a glaze of aged mineral oil.
Shown here is a Victorinox Evo Wood, or Evolution Wood 81 along with a walnut scaled Huntsman. Both looked so dull and lackluster before applying the mineral oil. Wow! What a difference, particularly after a second light application the following day.
I'm presently pondering jigging the scales of the Huntsman.
Disclaimer: I don't know if these are of "Swiss" walnut or simply "European" walnut, as I've also heard. Either way, it certainly is some good looking walnut.

Lower Right: First going over with automotive rubbing compound
I'm still trying to determine the manufacturing year. I'll post follow up photos when I get this one cleaned up.
I call this a Free-Climber because a USPS shipping nightmare resulted in a refund from the ebay seller before the knife finally arrived. Bonus for me... Bummer for the seller.

Recent arrival. Time to celebrate with some hot cocoa.
Some of the functions were a little stiff to begin with, but they are loosening up some with activity. So, what used knife doesn't behave a bit better with some cleaning and lubrication anyway? Actually, this knife looks like new - factory edge on the blade and doesn't look like it has ever cut anything.

It was a rainy, windy fall day, when this walnut scaled Huntsman Swiss Army Knife beckoned me to the basement with my camera, and I just felt a bit adventurous. So I took some chances with about the least obvious lens choice for the task at hand. I'm pretty pleased with the end result.
