Not many cars go to the remote village of S-charl (you can take your car over the mountain road during the summer, but only if you don't love that car too much), and no cars are allowed beyond this place. Since the distances are not to be underestimated people like to go by horse or mountain bike if they don't actually want to go mountain climbing.
I keep struggling to actually capture in a photo the organic chaos that surrounds visitors in the ancient pine forest of Tamangur. This one comes closer than most other attempts.

The larches were putting on a particular impressive show this year.
This harmless little mountain stream appears to often have lots of power. There are big chunks of impressive pieces of driftwood along its bed.
If you look up this sort of short-stemmed gentian you will find out that its usual blooming period is from May to August. It caught my eye immediately because it was the only bright blue flower I saw all day.
The larches had put on their most magnificent gold colours last week.

I wish I would have had a peek at the mountains further away. On the other hand cloudy weather keeps the trails from being crowded, so I actually appreciate this sort of weather.

Meanwhile it's almost winter and maximum unphotogenic outside... it's dark and raining cats and dogs. So I will keep posting photos from last month for quite some time I guess.
The frequent rainbows on this particular day made the alternating drizzle and snow grains much less annoying
Returning from a hiking tour I suddenly heard the sounds of galloping horses coming towards me. A few seconds later this little herd of horses (two more aren't in the picture) appeared in front of me on the dirt road and I had just enough time to jump out of the way. It turns out that their pasture is only closed towards the entrance to the valley. Their owners trust that the river and the mountains around the valley will keep them from wandering too far. However, there's plenty of space for them to roam.
