Tulip farms in Washington State are a huge seasonal attraction, especially in the Skagit Valley, home to one of the most famous tulip festivals in the United States.

🌷 Skagit Valley Tulip Farms
Located about an hour north of Seattle, Skagit Valley is the epicenter of tulip farming in the state. Every spring, usually from late March through April, the valley transforms into a vibrant patchwork of color, thanks to millions of blooming tulips.

So this was our morning on Saturday, before we headed out. Shobhit with his hot coffee, me with my hot tea, with our laptops at the table on their back patio, overlooking the small pond just beyond their backyard, full of frogs and birds. Apparently sometimes they even see river otters, but we didn't see any of those.

Here's something new that Mimi told us about this year: "Talking Fields," something a bit of a step up from just viewing tulip fields alongside the roads around the Skagit Valley, roughly an hour drive (with no traffic) north of Seattle. These are sites of farm tulips rather than the ticketed display gardens that are the biggest tourist draw each April, they have no staff, and they have free parking. They have a posted sign that notes which number "Talking Field" you are at, and includes a scannable QR code that takes you to a brief multimedia page about the site you are at—the example in this case being Field #6.

This was the only "Talking Field" we saw this year, and perhaps when we next return we should make a day of finding them all.
