National Coal Board Pleasley Colliery - view from the Pleasley-Warsop Railway Cutting on 16th April 1984.
Pleaasley Colliery deep mine was part of the North Derbyshire Area and was located 3 miles north of Mansfield in the Notts & Derby Coalfield. The colliery was sunk in the mid-1870's and remained in coal production until 1983. As late as December 1980 the monthly production amounted to 292,449 tons of coal. The colliery had a rail connection with both the Great Northern and Midland Railways.
The surviving preservrd headgear and engine house now has Grade 1 Listed Status.

LNER Worksop Station - view west towards Worksop Sidings and Shireoaks. Worksop West Signal Box (MSLR 1874) is clearly visible and beyond can be seen Worksop Sidings Signal Box. At this time the Yard was given over to MGW Wagon repairs. This was the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (later Great Central Railway) main line to Gainborough and on via Barnetby to Immingham, Grimsby and Cleethorpes. Semaphore signalling was mostly the order of the day around the station. Though not visible in this image - Worksop East Signal Box still survives at the time of posting - though out of use....
