Pleaasley Colliery deep mine was part of the North Derbyshire Area and was located 3 miles north of Mansfield in the Notts & Derby Coalfield. The colliery was sunk in the mid-1870's and remained in coal production until 1983. As late as December 1980 the monthly production amounted to 292,449 tons of coal. The colliery had a rail connection with both the Great Northern and Midland Railways.
The surviving preservrd headgear and engine house now has Grade 1 Listed Status.
