Nové Město ✶ Prague ✶ Czech Republic

~ Church of St. Henry and St. Kunhuta/Cunigunde (Kostel sv. Jindřicha a Kunhuty) - Gothic parish church serving 3 Catholic parishes, Czech, Slovak and Magyar.
The church was founded in the first half of the 14th century when the New Town was founded. It was built 1348–1351 in the Gothic style by the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, who administered it.
For 200 years it was a Hussite Church
During the Prussian bombing of Prague, the church was considerably damaged by cannonballs, many of which are still visible in the vaults of the church. This bombing also damaged the rare Gothic tent roof, which was replaced by a new, simpler Baroque roof. Another important element of the exterior is the roughly exposed masonry of the church.
the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, was baptised here on 19 December 1875.

Bothe church and tower were 're-Gothicized' in 1879 according to a project by Josef Mocker
