Hike, Tasmanian Wilderness.

Smile on Saturday: Going up.

Corinna is a small, remote settlement on the banks of an ancient river and provides a point of entry to the ancient Tarkine rainforest.

Photograph taken when hiking the Old Telegraph Hill walk at Corinna in Tasmania's remote western Wilderness area. The walk is board walked for the first 50m. From here, the trail leaves the boardwalk and quickly climbs uphill 100m via a muddy and overgrown bush track. Myrtles and leatherwood trees, surrounded by Blechnum ferns, guide the way to the top of the hill.

I've looked through all the images on this Fungi in Tasmania website but can see nothing that resembles my images - except perhaps
Phaeolus schweinitzii - Dyer's Polypore

The image bears a superficial resemblance to Ganoderma lucidum which is not an Australian fungi.
Ganoderma australe, also known as the Southern Bracket does occur in Tasmania however this does not appear to resemble the images I've seen online.
A species known as Ganoderma aff. applanatum, a similar species to Ganoderma australe, is also believed to occur in Tasmania but more work needs doing to clarify if it is actually Ganaderma applanatum (Artist’s Bracket) as it oocurs elsewhere in the world.
