Rear view of Harlaxton Manor from the Terrace

Having inherited the land, Gregory Gregory set about building his own mansion at Harlaxton between 1832 - 44. He designed the building himself, basing it on other stately homes of note. What he created was a mixture of Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture, with Baroque thrown in.

After his death, it passed to several people including Violet Van der Elst, the Society of Jesuits and it's now owned by the University of Evansville.

In the gardens there is a terrace made of Ancaster limestone. It was laid out in the 1830s - 40s and added to in the C20th when it changed its name from the Baroque Terrace to the Lion Terrace. It was restored in 2010 -11.
