The Met Office issued an amber wind alert - which brought down a few trees up the road from where I live. Storm Henk was quite the worse storm in South Bucks this winter.
All the traffic stopped on the A412 Uxbridge Road from Slough to Uxbridge, which was closed , Tuesday 2nd Jan 2024 around 6pm.
A Tesco lorry had to take evasive action to avoid the fallen trees, near Pinewood hotel, but he ended stuck in mud with no traction on the central reservation, so completely blocking the main road.
My friend Ali a householder opposite my home phoned me and we went up to see what was happening.
The police chatted with me and wanted someone who could use a chainsaw. …so as we both own chainsaws we went back to collect them.
Well there were three or four trees down which we cut into manageable sections to clear the near side lane between Coronation Avenue and Pinewood Hotel.
Two chainsaws working furiously did the trick and an honour to have the road shut while we set to work. The police were working hard too to clear the sawn trees and swept the road clear. Meanwhile the wind and rain from storm Henk was still playing tricks on us and some nerves frayed as to any more trees to blow down on us.
Full credit to the Thames Valley Police Officers who were hard working chaps pulling their weight shifting the cut tree trunks.
There were many many other instances of road blockages in the Thames Valley Police patch so think they are in for a heavy night.
Three quarters of an hour and we cleared the main road of the A412.
Then two huge recovery trucks arrived to pull the unlucky Tesco articulated lorry clear.
The photo is left to right - myself in orange high viz , police officer centre, and Ali on the right, with Pinewood hotel is on the far right in the photo.
A joint effort which got the main road clear.
We declined to go to any other of their shouts, I was nearly out of fuel anyway.
