A northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) protecting its nest from a European herring gull (Larus argentatus), in our neighbourhood another spring.
The lapwings are critically endangered in Norway, and I am really happy that they still nest on our island, since they are gone so many other places.
Today I was counting the ones I could see from the roads and paths close the fields out here, for the local newpaper which will publish an article about them tomorrow.
I saw at least 10 couples nesting, and I guess some more were hiding on the largest fields.
